Lower poly games are cheaper to make and run way better than bleeding edge graphics. Indie developers find them more accessible to make. It can still be done without resorting to fake texture-warping, though. I'm just fond of the look back then- ESPECIALLY the 2d UI elements. They had a certain style/look that I love. Omega Boost, Ghost in the Shell, and Macross VFX2 are examples of oldschool 2d UIs that had a really cool style/charm to them, partly due to the low res.

I worked for an FFL that closed in 2017. The last 6 months we were in business we had payment processor problems. Every dollar to or from a couple of the distributors we worked with was held up by the payment processors (money left accounts and just never deposited on the other end because they were literally intercepting and holding payments), and our owner fought those fuckers in court for years. No idea how that eventually ended up, but these issues are definitely not new.

Hey Kirsche, don't know If you'll read this, but, when it comes to your Bunker Oven, it sounds like it could either be a bad heating coil, the Internal thermostat is malfunctioning and giving a false positive, or the temperature nob thing is off center. The best way to test to see if the temperature knob is offset is to completely max it out (nob can't go any further) and see how far the arrow goes. If it is the coil, most heating coils can be easily replaced. You just need to figure out what model your oven is. (The bunker bros should be able to figure that part out) The easiest cheaper option, however, would be to get an oversafe thermostat you can put inside the oven and then mess around with the oven temperature gauge and find out what the actual temperature ranges are.

The masking topic reminded me of the most idiotic video I saw from CNN promoting them. They had a setup stimulating a cough where you could see the droplets suspended in air. With the "approved" mask cough, you see a large cloud of droplets escaping the sides of the mask. Then they used creative editing to not reveal that those droplets spread and hung in the air just like an unmasked cough. And they dared call that acceptable.

Something I disagree with Kirsche on, bound to happen sometime. I want to play fun and entertaining games, and if those games' graphics are pixel or sprite or look like it crawled out of a PS1, then that's fine with me. Though I'd love to see more hand-drawn and animated sprites like in Dust: An Elysian Tail, and the cozy game with korsches, Edengrall, is going with cel shading. EDIT: On cooking, when I moved to... the east coast, I had to re-learn some cooking times because of how much faster things would cook. And on flying pests, sometimes I have to pour some vinegar down the drain to kill gnats. Sometimes I also set up an apple cider vinegar trap to kill any not in the sink drains. I haven't had much issue with house flies, though when the very rare issue does crop up fly tape has worked fine.

If every game had the AAAA level graphics, I would have not been able to play ANY game for the last 20 years as I had no PC capable of running anything better than PS2 level quality. Yea, this is a brilliant idea, lets demand the entire industry dump billions into making games that 5-10% of gamers actually have a rig capable of running. That wont cause the complete bottoming out of the industry..... Also, considering the file sizes of said games, no, I dont think I should have to purchase another terrabyte of hard drive space every 3 months to install the 4 new games I got in those 3 months. This is just a fundamentally flawed perspective on the industry. Nintendo has had the philosophy since the Gamecube that the pursuit of photorealistic graphics does nothing but inflate the cost to make the game, inflate the amount of time needed to develop a game, and inflate the cost you will need to charge the consumer in order to break even all for NO EFFECT on gameplay whatsoever. Sorry, but Super Metroid still plays as good today as it did when it came out and THAT is what matters. You know what pisses me off more than anything at all? When I spend 100 fucking dollars to buy a game, only to not even be able to play it because at minimum graphics settings (which are still basically Ultra level graphics) and my computer which only has a 3 year old graphics card can still barely handle it.

I understand going for a lower quality graphical style if it makes things easier to develop, I understand going for a pixel-art style in 2D because that _can_ look really good, consider something like Owlboy. I am not remotely a graphics snob, and am even ok with most forms of retro graphics even in new games. Even the low-poly 3D of PS1/N64 games; unlike pixel art, low poly doesn't ever really look good, but I'd be ok with it. But this is something else. People are now putting in more effort to make things look worse. No-one should be nostalgic for the glitches of early console 3D. Part of the reason why some people are nostalgic for pixel art is because late pixel art, when done with skill, looked so much better than early 3D. Early 3D looked really bad, but it was worth putting up with for the changes in gameplay, and in some ways we had to get through that phase for things to get better. This isn't low resolution to be nostalgic for Doom, or pixel art to be nostalgic for Super Mario Bros., or even ASCII 'graphics' to be nostalgic for Rogue. This is like deliberately including Missingnos because Pokémon had memory limitations, having three different and inconsistent sets of character models because of FF7, or telling the second half of your story through cliff notes and slideshows just because Xenogears ran out of time. Having limitations can lead to creativity because you try to deal with the limitations, to bring about your vision in spite of those limitations, but this is like glorifying the shortcomings. It's peak hipster.

If graphics mattered to a games success, Minecraft wouldn't be worth millions and there are hundreds of thousands of other smaller indie games that arent "realistic" in graphics but are held close and loved by gamers universally. The obession with graphics is one of the core reasons why the AAA industry is failing.
