Man, watching Calli finish this game in one stream makes me realize how short DMC1 was. Like, I remembered playing this game for countless hours before finally finishing it maybe like 3 weeks later? I always thought the game was long until I remembered I've only been wasting my time farming red orbs for like hours during the first half of the game.

The DMC1 manual has a bit of extra lore as well as the DMC1 novel that fleshes out Dante more. There are some new characters that weren't in the game such as Nell Goldstein, Dante's gunsmith and Enzo, who finds jobs for Dante

This game really pioneered the 3d action genre. It's crazy. You can see its influence in games today

I read this game was built on an almost finished version of RE4. Instead of throwing out the work that'd been done, Capcom reused and tweaked the level design and enemy models to make DMC as more or less a throwaway title. This is why the level design is so unusually detailed with so many puzzles in comparison to later entries into the series. It was a surprise success.

Everyone memes on Dante's unintentionally hilarious relationship with Trish and that one scene, but my favorite parts of this game are actually back-to-back in the first five minutes, where Sparda wakes up to justice, and then Dante makes up an entirely new word that may or may not have inspired game director Hideki Kamiya (or someone involved) when he eventually left Capcom and formed Platinum Games 50:09 (it didn't, but it's fun to think so)

I'm typically a proponent of always playing games like this in release order over chronological, but I do admit to seeing the appeal for this case after seeing Calli's stunlocked realization of who Nelo Angelo is glad that wasn't spoiled for you and I hope Chat behaves themselves for the latter half of the series over certain plot points...right Chat?? : ) the 'Resident Evil that never was' vibes really did end up fitting Spooky Month somewhat! honestly would not mind a return to that tone if we ever get DMC6... congrats on finishing it all in one go!! looking forward to you meeting Nero next time! don't listen to the haters, he's a good boy!

Be sure to check Original Anime by Madhouse(2007) in timeline it's right before DMC4, it shows some fun stuff, like Lady and Trish meeting for the first time, that you never get to see in games. And it is canon to the games.

Thank you for the fond memories of playing the very first DMC and congratulations for beating it with just one stream, Callie! This is the ONLY game that I've played on the PS2 and never touched the other because I struggled in some of the boss fights and found out that the other DMCs are even harder... Anyways I like that JACKPOT sync! *And also blessed HICs (if you can, try holding your breath and rub/beat your chest area until you burp the trap air out)

I never played DMC1, and for the first game in the series for early playstation its really good, nice combos, aesthetic, places and characters like Trish, Im glad I could experience it watching you. But looking back, there just weren't any other action games like this and even now this game holds up really well....you know when we're not swimming...or doing inverted schmup sections or....you get the idea!
