It has been argued ad-nauseum what the significance of it was to the rapper. Some say it refers to 67th Street in Philly (where the guy is from), others say 67th Street in Chicago (for whatever reason). A linguist theorised it refers to the police code for reporting a death (10-67), which does line up with the lyrics referencing gun violence, but I think not given that the first half of the code is missing, rendering the 6-7 meaningless. Besides, cops don't say "10-6-7", they say "10-67" when making that call. Soon after release it was used in video efforts of NBA players, particularly LaMello Ball who is apparently 6'7" in height. A few weeks after release, a high school basketball prospect became affiliated with the meme for a viral clip of him rating a Starbucks coffee "six ... seven?" He later launched a 6-7 branded canned water product line. And then the hand gesture became part of the meme in March when some kid was filmed doing it while saying 6-7.
