I'd live for you to watch Pan's Labyrinth! It's by Guillermo del Toro-- very famous guy, you may have heard of him. It's about this young girl in early 20th century Spain who moves into her evil, military dictator stepfather's house with her pregnant mother. There she discovers she is the princess of a magical world and must do three tasks in order to be taken back to her true home. So there's two stories going on, with Ophelia dealing with these magical, heavily symbolic tasks while there's also a story in the real world with her stepfather trying to hunt down these guerilla fighters who oppose his regime. The end is so sad, and the magical realism aspect of the twisted fairytale-like atmosphere makes you think about how much you're witnessing is real and how much is a young, poor girl's imagination she's using to cope with her situation. Thoroughly recommend

Vod Question: I know this was already suggested for bad vampire movies but Hugh Jackman's Van Helsing. Not because it is good but because it is fun. And also has weirdly attractive people in stupidly dramatic costumes, and also my favorite fantasy crossbow, and again fun.

Appreciate the commitment to finish the analytical rant of Twilight, despite Big Gurt's efforts. And when it comes to the more topical talks, I appreciate that too. Even though you're "silly anime guy" - which you're more than that. Anyway, I like the idea of a 'Book n Movie Club' or 'Story Club'. Simply as a way to expand that viewership. Because I enjoy talking about any kind of story. It could be a story from a video game too, I don't discriminate - lol. I think those streams should depend on what you're interested in at that time. Be it books or movies. Re:Vod Question: What movie should you watch for "Movie Club" First Pitch: The Martian - I think you oughta watch, or maybe rewatch, it just because it's a really intriguing survival story on Mars as an astronaut. Second Pitch: The King - It's a period piece that explores what it means to become a king in England. Third Pitch "I'm OUT" of ideas: Back to the Future - Because they're on Netflix for this month and I believe you haven't seen those movies.

thanks for the super fun morning yap!! big gurt can tear the overly nitpicky searing hot absolutely timely critical analysis of the Twilight franchise from my cold, dead hands. as for the vod Q, i'm not a huge watchalong guy, but i think it'd be fun to chill out with some old classics with the ruzaders. you mention Labyrinth and Dark Crystal a bunch, and i watched The Goonies and IT (1990 series) as a kid on the same weekend i first saw those two, so the four of them are mixed up in my mind as some kind of whimsical yet terrifying childhood adventuring of age 80s story soup. edit: just rewatching some parts i missed and realizing *I'M* the reverse performative media girlie. i watched ferris bueller as a kid and REALLY digged cameron, so i bought a red wings jersey to wear that i still go around in. sometimes sports fans holler out in the streets "go team!" or whatever and i'm like i just like moopies... i'm not sportsballing... sorry to all the canadian tourists i've inadvertently disappointed (and yes, they're always canadian, eh).

OtsuRuze! Big Gurt can't stop you from ranting about Twilight! VOD Question: Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It's medieval, it's iconic, british humor, and has Sir-Not-Appearing-in-This-Movie. A classic

Jurassic World Rebirth! As a huge fan of the Jurassic franchise it was such a good movie!!! Characters were solid no one felt one dimensional or like a gag!. The plot was smooth and motivations were good!, the setting was awesome and interaction between both characters and dinosaurs were done so well!!. Even the big confrontation felt natural and not out of place in both the behaviors of the dinosaurs and people and how they end up in it! The whole movie was such a breath of fresh air in the dinosaurs movie scene!, the dinosaurs felt like actual animals and weren’t humanized to the point of disbelief!.

Thanks for stream !! Always happy to be able to catch one For VOD question: Movie recommendation! I'd recommend Paranorman, it's a stop-motion film by laika, the same studio that produced Coraline. It's about an 11-year old boy in Massachusetts who can talk to ghosts, and though nobody believes him, this makes him the only one capable of lifting a 300 year old curse placed upon the town by a wrongfully executed witch. It's honestly a really underrated movie & though it's not halloween anymore does fit the halloween theme!

Thanks for the stream !! For VOD question : The Prestige. It's a movie about a man being accused for the murder of his rival. Both were illusionists and you see bits by bits their story, what happened between them etc... Also, a movie adapted from the Discworld serie could be cool, like "Hogfather". Or "Discworld", that is an adaptation of the first two books (but I like Hogfather...there's Suzanne in it and she is fucking badass).

VOD Question: I'm proposing The Cabinet of Dr Caligari! It's a German expressionist silent film from 1920 and has some really neat visuals. The character Cesare is the inspo for the character of the same name from Big Top Burger. The movie is also in the public domain so you can easily watch it for free!

Thanks for the stream Ruze, even with all the ISP difficulties. I really need to catch up with VODs to answer the VOD questions, but at least wanted to put my recommendations for movies here. I have many (so many), but will try to narrow down. 1. The Sound of Music - mostly because you confessed to not watching it during a previous art stream. The music is iconic, and the story is both heart warming as well as heart breaking. It's one of my favorite childhood films for a reason, although I'll confess, I didn't get all the nuances of the story until I was older. I'll just put the brief film synopsis: "Based on the story of the Von Trapp Family singers, one of the world's best-known concert groups in the era immediately preceding World War II. Julie Andrews plays Maria, a postulant at an Austrian abbey, who becomes the governess in the home of a widowed naval captain of 7 children, and brings a new love of life and music into the home." There are darker themes later in Act 2 considering the time period, but it's still one of my favorite films. 2. Captain America: The Winter Soldier - I remember Flayon recommending this to you in previous streams, and for good reason. It's an action packed adventure that really fleshes out Steve Rogers making him think about his role in the modern world after World War II, and I think is a better introduction to Natasha Romanov (Black Widow) than her introduction in Iron Man 2. Even though you do need to know about the events that happened in Cap 1 and the Avengers, I think it honestly stands on it's own in the MCU, and this movie is legitimately what made me fall in love with the MCU. The brief synopsis: "After the cataclysmic events in New York with his fellow Avengers, Steve Rogers lives in the nation's capital as he tries to adjust to modern times. An attack on a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague throws Rogers into a web of intrigue that places the whole world at risk." 3. Knives Out - I didn't really get into murder mysteries before, but Rian Johnson's superb writing in "Knives Out" completely blew me away. A murder mystery set in the modern day already brings in intrigue since I think I've only seen murder mysteries set in period pieces, but Rian wanted to bring it to the modern era because he pointed out that well known murder mystery authors, like Agatha Christie, were writing their stories in their own time. The cast is phenomenal, and you can tell that everyone is giving their all and having fun doing it, even when they're playing insufferable people. Actually, on that note, did you know that Chris Evans, the actor of Steve Rogers/Captain America is in this movie and playing a complete a**hole? Now you do! (I promise that's not why I'm recommending it. It's mostly because the 3rd installment in the series is coming out soon, & I can't wait!) Sorry for the essay, but you told us to sell you on our recs, so here ya go! If you ever do watch any of these suggestions, hope you enjoy them!

While U asked a movie but I know a 1 season anime series that's one and done and its bout length total 4 hrs 30 roughly. It's called Akudama Drive. It's an anime which is beautifully drawn and hits the accelerator constantly and ends oh so well. I've recommended it to many people and just say watch an ep and see how U feel. And then get back a message of "I watched the whole thing was amazing thank you!'

The Twilight talk gave me so much joy today and I'm glad you didn't let Big Gurt silence you. VOD Question Answer: I barely watch movies because I get migraines too easily but Pontypool, probably? It's a psychological horror thriller with the most unique take on a "virus that makes people zombie-adjacent" that I've ever seen, primarily taking place at the radio station of a small town (named Pontypool). The new announcer for the station ends up unintentionally reporting on this start of this virus in Pontypool before it starts to spread beyond the town. The hardest part of convincing people to watch it is I can't be more specific than that on the virus itself. How unique it is makes it really easy to spoil a very cool realization while watching the movie. The main scary thing with it, imo, is thinking about how horrifying that virus would be if it was real. I will say the radio play of the movie has a different ending than the movie and I prefer that ending one. The movie ending is neat! But also a little jarring/has caught everyone I've watched it with off-guard. I am pretty sure I've gotten at least two people to watch it with me every year since I've seen it. There's a book it's based off called Pontypool Changes Everything but I've never read it so can't say how good it is of a read.

Thanks for the morning latte stream! Love the yapping stream...though the Twilight tangent was mind-blowing and I really cannot comprehend how the books ended up on shelves. VOD question: I am probably the worst person to ask about movie recommendations (it has been a while since I watched one) Inception? I found it quite mind blowing with all the effects but the basis of the story caught me off guard in a way..

Had lots of fun with today's stream, its nice to just rapid-fire release all the little subjects you've had crammed in your brain. I'd like to hear your thoughts on Nimona, its an adorable movie with some actually very deep and modern themes (&its free on youtube)

otsu~ thanks for the fun yapping stream! i really enjoyed your talk about twilight through a critical lens and it just made me wanna rewatch the movies and try to catch everything i missed? ignored? when i watched it all those years ago VOD Question: Since you mentioned it, why not some Over the Garden Wall? I know it's a little late since Halloween is over but I'd still love to watch it again with everyone or we could watch Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein when it comes out on Netflix! I just heard good things about his take on Frankenstein's monster, so I'm excited to watch it myself

Otsuruze! Thank you for chill(?) latte yap time, more please Vod question: Which movie for movie club? May I suggest Monty Pythons because I've only ever seen clips or memes from it and not the whole movie, I want the excuse and motivation to watch the whole thing with commentary

THANK YOU FOR STWEAM thank you for yet another Twilight rant in the extended version lmao and thanks for yapping with us in general, it is always peak content 🩷 VOD question: ezpz, Back to the Future, baybeeeeeeeeeh... I like those movies, ain't my favorite or anything close to that but I'd like to know what you'd think about it as a very famous franchise but in general I'm veeeery excited about movie club so yippeeee

VOD Question: I wanna say Daybreakers and Equilibrium because they're my personal faves, but I think the most interesting answer would be Men in Black. An interesting little world built movie you could pick apart.

Thank you for the zatsu! YOU became my background yapper while I was doing dishes and laundry, but I guess it's ok since you said so. VOD Q: If you'd like to hate more on a big franchise, pleeeeease get your paws on Pacific Rim (2013). There are so many plot holes and weird pacing issues but the rule of cool wins me over every time. The characters are over the top and exaggerated and belong more in a satire flick than whatever happened in this production. I'd love to see what you'd do differently or whether you'll enjoy it at all :3c But if you want a more genuine, non-hater, rec, I'd also love to see what you think about Annihilation (2018). It's a story about dealing with grief and self-destructiveness disguised as a lovecraftian cosmic disaster scenario. A meteor hits Earth and creates an incomprehensible zone that scientists explore to find answers. It's a bit disturbing body horror-wise, so check the triggers before watching it! Love this movie for the themes, monster designs, and atmosphere building.

Otsu! Great stream, ripping into and sometimes defending select parts of Twilight is one of my favorite things. I'd watch you rant for even longer on it. VOD question: I know it's highly improbable since the mouse currently owns it, but The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. It's vaguely seasonal with Christmas coming up, and fantasy. Also, since you're a Tolkien nerd and he and Lewis were friends and contemporaries, it would make for a nice compare/contrast discussion.

Man, big gurt has comedic timing. I felt so bad, but I was laughing so much at the timing! Thank you for the stream and the yapping!! Loved it! VOD Question: It'd be really enjoyable to hear more of your thoughts on movies! I like a lot of the movies already mentioned, and honestly, I wouldn't mind a movie you've already seen either! I will mention Stardust it's a 2007 adventure and fantasy film! There's romance, comedy, magic, witches, pirates, and sword fights.

Thank you for stream Ruze! This was so much fun and the visual of you waking up and immediately going “you know what pisses me off? TWILIGHT” is really funny For the vod question I think you should watch CLUE in our made up movie club, there’s some things in it that aged a little weird but 99% of it is just a really fun and clever movie with several different endings (when people watched it in theaters they all got different endings) and there’s jokes that are so clever I’ve watched the movie a dozen times and there’s still new thing I catch each time I watch it.

This was so fun to listen to live as a person who only knows memes and the points of twilight that people are shocked over. Big Gurt’s gotta stop cutting off your connection when you’re speaking the truth lmao. I’d definitely enjoy more of these types of zatsu streams! VOD Q: I think you’d enjoy watching and talking about Big Fish (2003). An example of magical realism and the power of being a storyteller and how you’d want to be remembered. It’s my favorite movie also but I would love to hear you tear it apart lol.

Thanks for the zatsu, Ruze!!! I could only watch a bit of the Twilight rant, so I'll catch up on the VOD! But, if you're interested, ContraPoints made a video essay on the whole saga and I found it well put together and super entertaining. (As a Twilight ignorant, since I could never get past the first movie.. it's really just not for me. lmao) VOD Q: Maybe Vampire Hunter D? to be on theme. lol I can't sell it, I just think it's beautiful art. 🙇♀
