It's so interesting to see how she reacts to new information, because I get to learn A LOT about proper and improper ways of teaching those things. I find a lot of mistakes in the way things are being presented and I get to learn from that. Her confusion was completely understandable at certain points, for example the way the return value of a function was "explained". Teaching material almost always seems to fail at this: JUST. SHOW. EXAMPLES. I don't care about your initial formal definition that'll be hard to decipher. First show a ton of extremely basic use examples, and THEN give it a formal definition. Pattern recognition is easier than logical text deciphering.
