i know that at least in the southern islands of japan youre supposed to talk/pray to ancestors in your first language. ofc im sure it varies depending on the local beliefs and whether a possible ghost is considered an ancestor, but speaking english to them might not affect whether they understand you or not, so be considerate just in case!
