"Evolution without courage will be the end of our race." - Laurence, the first Vicar Even as he did the things he did, he still believed he was true of heart and with no ill intent. Master Willem was already complete crazy when he came to the conclusion humans needed more eyes to see beyond the cosmos. Which is why he sent Laurence, Maria and Gerhman up to the Fishing Hamlet, to not only see what Kos was doing there but also to harvest the eyes of the fish people. Laurence was still disgusted by this act, thinking that the Blood was the only way to reach greatness. And the blood did indeed heal and had miracle properties, but no one knew what it would lead to, not even him. Which is why him and Gehrman summon the Moon Presence with one third of umbilical cord (If you recall, you found one umbilical cord on the real world version of the Hunters Dream). The Moon Presence made the Hunters Dream an ethereal place where hunters who died would keep coming back to fight the beastly scourge. Djura, the guy with the machine gun atop the building was the first hunter from the hunters dream trained under Gehrman. As you can see, he no longer dreams. But he is still stuck to this town, as not dreaming is not enough to escape what Yharnam has become. Eileen has similar dialogue, stating that she no longer dreams but also mentions the doll. You can only hear this if you aggro her. Laurence went on to do his own thing. Ridden with feelings of guilt, he had no choice but to burn Old Yharnam down. It's the real reason why you can see him burning as a cleric beast. The Hunters Nightmare works as kind of a purgatory where hunters pay for their sins. Among Laurence's sins, the one he considers the worst is the atrocity commited down in Yharnam and that's why he burns forever. He still tried to hide this from the eyes of the normal people, to which he created the church hunters, that made sure to operate at the night outside of people's views. Quite literally they were church ninjas. Gerhman has a secret dialogue, you can find him crying for help. Saying that the night blocks all sight, begging for Laurence and Master Willem to save him. It's incredibly sad, the voice actor did a great job. Ironically, to achieve Greatness like the Good Hunter (your character) did, you need both insight from the umbilical cords and the old blood. So Willem and Laurence's kerfuffle was for naught, everyone lost. Congrats on beating bloodborne Biboo! That was awesome to experience it live, I'm glad you had so much fun with one of my favorite games of all time, probably my top 1. As for the lore video recommendations, while Vaati is the go to, I really really recommend you watch "The Dark Lore of Bloodborne", "Visceral Femininity: A Bloodborne video essay" and "The many meanings of Bloodborne". Those are very recent videos with updated lore based on accurately translated descriptions and well put together. I hope we can talk about it later. Bye bye.
