People being a representation of sperm and the moon cavern as a big womb, the people are lured by a place fighting to get there and whoever reaches it can be used to produce new life, just like whoever was found in the canal first migh have been used as genetic material to make the invisible guy, who is a mixture of human likeness and moon folk adaptabilty, also I think he was the baby we saw being taken care of by the moon female mammal. And just like when we the player finally get to this moon womb, we see another version of us emerging in front of us, we die as a human for them to be born anew, a moon folk, then the clone is shown without the space suit for a split second and it looks like us but with the same proportions of the invisible guy, then he says "through me you endure, through you I endure". Basically a new step in evolution, I die for you to be born, a new version of me. At least thats what i got from the game.
