Trick is your dodge upgraded allows you have i frames if time it correctly(future series) Royal guard is blocker but only reduce dmg taken if i correct but i frames if you got DT or well timed block.

The dmc is in chronological order > Dmc 3, DMC 1, DMC4, DMC2, and then DMC 5 but dmc 2 is so bad its skipable!! barely lose much lore, you gottt thisss BANCHOUUU
