I got curious: it seems when Chess arrived to Europe, the word "Rukh" (persian) meant anything to europeans and it sounded similar to "Rocca" (italian = rock, fortress) so there the visual change.

Chess has been one of my favorite board games since I was a child .. I used to imagine I was in a battle and I'd even make up lines for the pieces to say whenever I got a check or checkmate hahah
