It's very funny, when you reflect on the Aperture Science writing, how the writers looked at every principle of smart researching, smart business, etc. and just had Cave stubbornly do the opposite. Literally reinventing the wheel out of pigheadedness.

Old Aperture has got to be one of my favourite sections in any video game. Suddenly shifting from the oppressive curated efficiency of the test chambers to such a massive open setting was mind blowing as a kid. That's not even mentioning the brilliant storytelling which happens here.

That button is canonically covered in an experimental camo-gel the scientists developed in secret. It's supposed to only be visible to ghosts, but even then it's made to be hard to spot. They tell you about this in the developer's commentary except no they don't, but science is what you hypothesize it to be until proven otherwise. And boy do we have proof to the positive.

I think Cave Johnson's work is actually very impressive, despite his flaws. Going from shower curtain sales in 1943 to the BEST New science company in 1947? Organizing all the things in the facility so they STILL RUN today? If only he had someone to guide him into proper direction...
