i think world trigger is underated in both manga and anime, the show is more lowkey and tactical than most shounen and rely more on tactic.

underrated: centaurworld! very over the top silly but it balances out the dark undertones. very nice songs too. fav song is welcome to the bay where a shaman tries to get the mc to yoink by entering her mouth. also peak villian design & theme.

Something I think has a lot of hidden gems is the found footage horror genre with great entries like Lake Mungo, Saiko the Large Family, Noroi: the Curse, and the Tunnel

"Foundation" is 75 yo. "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" is ~150. Frankenstein and "Pride & Prejudice" are over 200! I'd re-read any of them before watching most of the films produced in the last decade.

Some early sci-fi works like R.U.R and Metropolis are not exactly hidden but few people I know have actually read/watched them, which is a pity bc they still hold to modern tastes despite being ~100yo

I feel like a lot of literary classics (both fiction and non-fiction) became ""hidden gems" in the sense that most ppl simply do not know the original works, just their (often terrible) adaptations.

One interesting case is Street Fighter 3... Despite being a great game from a major franchise, most ppl (outside of die-hard fighting game fans) didn't even realize it existed until SF4 was released.

Hidden Gem music artist i love is Dirt Poor Robins. Their albums are storytelling masterpieces with wonderful vocals & lyrics. My favorite album of theirs is "The Last Days of Leviathan". Love them <3

It's been 30 years since the last Dark Stalkers game. It has some of the best animation and character design in any fighting game, but Capcom insists on ignoring 99% of their own legacy IPs!:CRY:

Since I know you love Alien I'll highlight the 60's Italian horror film Planet of the Vampires which was a huge inspiration for Alien's writer. Lots of scenes and ideas taken from that film.
