When I had seen you start this game so soon after Shiori ended her playthrough which allowed me to experience this game, I was psyched to hear your guesses and see your reactions to the plot. The story is so methodically written, even up to its promotional character bios in the game's page from the Dev's website iirc, and even with reviews where, as a result of my fanfic research about the canon lore of the characters, I noticed hardly none if any spoke of Ayumu with male pronouns. They usually just refered to him as "the director", even though calling him a guy isn't wrong either. Ayumu's official profile in the: umdc shueisha games, Ayumu's profile for things like age or visual identifiers are round about non answers and I think it was great at building up mystery for the eventual twist. I read some of the other comments, and tying in to how DID was handled, I found that trying to get into a mind frame to write or imagine a fanfiction where Azami and Jasmine are together has been challenging and slow going, but its been a fun attempt non the less. It really makes me admire how well balanced the characterization, conflicts ( _internal and external_ ), and sprinkles of foreshadowing were done. When Shiori finished the game, I went to ao3 and saw there was only 2 works, and wanted to "be the change I wished to see 😩 " because the existing works didn't vibe too well with me. As Shadow observed, if the story were to continue, and the same characters of Azami and Jasmine were to comeback I think a lot of conflict would come from Jasmine struggling to sort her feelings, and that is what my short fic in the tag tried to poke at. Which lead to a bigger idea, but its slow going and I'm rambling. Thank you for the stream Reine, it was a lot of fun going through the journey with you and the MERAKyats. 💙 P.S. _Fun trivia, Polka had also played this game and finished before Shiori and was lurking in the final stream of Shiori's playthrough, only to pop out and enjoy the shock and surprise at finding out the big plot twist sksk._

Endgame spoilers below . . . . 3:07:54 I see your point, in Ave Mujica, introducing Mortis definitely made the character of Mutsumi more interesting and set up a lot of complications in her relationships with other characters, and the implied merge muddled that. I wrote the superchat just trying to think of some dramatic romantic scene without really considering the larger effect on the story, but I guess with Azami and Jasmine I might argue that since Jasmine's relationship with Azami is already so well-established over the course of the game, it adds an interesting complication if the Azami personality merges back with Ayumi. Their relationship is summed up by the scene where Jasmine bursts in to rescue Azami in the room where the 5 Society is being held, and then afterwards when she comforts Azami over the great doxxing. Azami is smart and competent in her special area, but she relies on Jasmine for protection, both physical and emotional. We also see the emotional protection during the doomscrolling scenes where Jasmine helps Azami shrug off the nastier comments. If Azami and Ayumi merge, there could be a conflict—they would still need Jasmine's protection and help, definitely physically and I think also emotionally. But Ayumi is a much less pleasant person than Azami, and Jasmine must already be wondering if it's her duty or moral obligation to arrest them. The merge could further complicate the question for Jasmine—she still sees Azami in this person, she still wants to protect Azami, but there's also enough new and unpleasant traits to make her wonder if this is really the same person, if this is someone she still wants to protect. You could create a similar tension if the personalities stay divided, and make it more clear-cut and literal, so it can work either way, but if the story were continuing I think merging them has a lot of storytelling potential since you never quite know which side of her is going to come out, the Ayumi side or the Azami side. So that's my pitch. Either way, this tension within Jasmine was one more thing the game very cleverly set up with the final twist, and it gives the post-credit scene so much impact. We know Jasmine tracked Azyuami down for a reason, either to arrest her or to try to save her. The final scene leaves it up to our interpretation which she chose. Such a great game, I admire the storytelling and atmosphere so much.
