the best mecha media is kind of a huge questions. My heart says to answer gundam because I watched it so obsessively growing up but I also loved gurren lagann and that was fundamental to shaping my brain growing up. Escaflowne also goes very hard. Really i think the answer is giant robots are cool

Otsuruze~ Beautiful conclusion to the ghost captions arc and beautiful art too I really love all the thought you put into the details of each piece. Plus the talk about making art for the sake of art is I agree completely. Vod question: The three mecha anime I remember most is Medabots during childhood, Majestic Prince awhile ago, and Gundam Witch from Mercury recently. They all have their own charms and great designs ✨ For games I remember watching my parent played Mechwarrior and Mechcommander a lot, the different building parts and gameplay was really fascinating to me.

THANK YOU FOR STREEEEEAM !! your art streams have been super helpful for art motivation, and it's cool to feel like i'm improving at this skill along with someone also you knew this was coming 2:10:59 GHOST MENTION also PLEASE listen to the rest of skeleta if/when you get the chance, it's a really great album overall and i think you would like De Profundis Borealis and Marks Of The Evil One specifically (and i'm adding in Umbra as a recommendation as well bc it's one of my favorites off the album and the cowbell goes hard) also for the VOD question: i've never gotten super into mecha media in general, but i DO have a friend that really loves gundam and paints a lot of gundam kits, so i'm gonna answer with that on his behalf edit: i somehow forgot about evangelion. i change my answer to evangelion.

Thanks for the stream! Pacific Rim was one of my favorite theater experiences--didn't really know much going in, and had an amazing time in awe of the spectacle, and Drift Compatibility is such a neat concept For anime, I'd say Gurren Lagann is hard to beat for its unabashed fighting spirit. But I also appreciate 86 for telling a pretty good war story

Otsu on art! and Grounded 2 talks man, so excited!!! UOOOHhhh!!! vod question answer: Mecha media, I literally can't choose... but let's just say, the one I would constantly rewatch is Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Like, Gurenn Lagann and Evangelion is both animated by Gainax but the direction wise Eva hurts you but Gurenn Lagann gives you Hope.. it's something anyone should watch at least once in their life imo. Man, I also love Zoids, Full Metal Panic (man I want an arbalest figure uooohh) if you're edgy there's code geass, if you love magical girls, there's Rayearth, Macross is also good. If you like emotionally unstable pilots there's the whole gundam franchise (Gundam G, TurnA, Seed if you like convoluted teenagers drama, or the 40 years Universal Century content, animation wise, Origins, Unicorn, and Hathaway is a good watch where there's no repeated animations anywhere but I dont like Hathaway, dude being carried by Xi gundam, it's a cheese. lol. Or something obscure like Innocent Venus no one talks about. >w< Suisei no Gargantia and Eureka 7, man, I ALSO LOVE SSSS Gridman SSSS Dynazenon 86 knights and magic, Escaflowne Promare kuromukuro RahXephon break blade.. bruh... I can't choose.. I see robots- I watch them. yippieee~

Thank you for a fun and chill art stream! And hurray for finding the captions ghost!! VOD QUESTION For mecha media, I gotta say for anime: Gundam and Eureka 7. E7 especially needs more love, it's just so vibrant and fun. Air surfing mechs! For games, Xenogears!! (And Xenoblade to a lesser degree) Absolutely wonderful game that altered my brain chemistry as a teenager. If you like crunch and mumbers though, can't go wrong wuth Armored Core.

My fav mecha thing was the original Bubblegum Crisis. Not only did it have badass mech but they totally slayyyed, all the girls kicked ass and I especially loved the unhinged one who was obsessed with explosives. One of the very first anime's i ever saw was Robotech. My dad had the vhs and made us watch it. I found out years later that Robotech is actually spliced from some completely other show. That being said as a kid I really thought it was cool, and especially loved that it had someone falling in love with an alien. (First time i had seen that in anything) Did both of those just show how oldge I am... yes, but still if you haven't seen them totally go take a watch. They are quite fun.

OtsuRuze~! Q: Best mecha media? For game: Xenogears, hands down. 90s JRPG by Square, and probably one of the most ambitious projects of the time. It's not perfect by any means, but boy, the story made me go like "you can write a story like that"??? Is one of those games you have to experience, I jokingly say it's the Evangelion of 90s JRPGs, and speaking of which... Anime: Evangelion. Yeah. I love that series, it's fundamentaly a story about broken people, and how they learn (or not) about human connection. "Hedgehog's dilemma" is the best description of the core theme. There is so much to dissect about the characters, that I always feel like I learn something new everytime I rewatch, or see someone else commenting on them. Yeah

I don't interact with mecha media a ton, but from what I've seen Aldnoah Zero was the most interesting one. Mainly because of the characters and political games among Martian aristocracy, but mecha design and fights were pretty great too. I'd even consider it one of my favorite anime in general.

Having caught up with this a few days ago the conversation starting at 3:33:05 is really important I think. I wish I could have heard this five years ago when I was trying to discover what my art meant to me and for me while combating peer pressure about my art. More people need to hear this. It’s definitely okay for art to be kept personal and be casual. I enjoy it so much better about it this way.

Thanks for the art stream Ruze! For the VOD question: I freaking LOVE the movie Pacific Rim. I found the concept of the mecha suits to be very intriguing. There’s a reason why that film bore different alternate universe takes in different fandoms. T’was a great stand alone film. Yup. A completely fun, awesome, stand alone film

I may have joined late, just in time to catch part of the conversation about Grounded 2, but I am excited to see what Obsidian Entertainment put in the game (I'll be watching the trailer soon). The art looks great btw! ------ Re: Vod Question: What is the best mecha media ------ I'm gonna give my answer first - Armored Core for games, hands down. It gets more subjective for anime. I'd say it's a draw between 86 and Code Geass. My overall reasoning is these are my favorite pieces of mecha media with a world that breathes. ------ Anime Reasoning ------ Gundam is classic. Its modern anime entrees like Iron Blooded Orphans and Witch of Mercury are fantastic. I could go on and on about Gundam. To say Gundam is the overall best would seem like a cop out, imo. Code Geass is also a classic at this point. And the only reason I'm not answering Guren Lagon, is because I think Code Geass has a better world and story. 86 stands out in my mind as one of the best modern mecha. It was popular, but supposedly the manga was cancelled. Although, there's plenty of material left to adapt. As is, it's great. ------ Game Reasoning ------ I've also played a bit of mecha, but there are only a few good ones out there. It's been a niche genre for a long time. There are also a few games that blend genres, like Titanfall 2 - that's my second favorite. I dove into Armored Core 4, and I played each subsequent release. Looking into the lore for Armored Core, to give a surface level understanding about the world, it's what happens when... Governments collapse because of a lack of resources, and mecha pilots are contracted as mercenaries to fight. This game paints a very corporate and post-apocalyptic world. To me the gameplay is one of a kind, it's Gundam proper. (It all comes back to Gundam.)

Otsu! Love to see you excited for Grounded 2! Does Transformers count? I saw bits of it as a kid (they showed it alongside Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z). Anime-wise is Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 and Gundam SEED. Gundam SEED introduced me to the world of Gundam. (Un | En Twine was the "Ghost captions" TTRPG, just in case you did not write it down)

So I haven't watched or played the mecha classics, but I wouldn't have had any interest in mecha designs, model kits, Macross, or games like Armored Core and Daemon x Machina if it weren't for the presence of Code Geass and having watched my older cousins play War of Eustrath (they didn't let me play).

If you really think about it, Attack on Titan is a mecha anime--sorry. Real answer, I watched Voltron Legendary Defender as it was coming out years and years ago. It was one of the shows I watched with my little brother, and it's a precious memory for both of us. The character development and the world was so amazing. I was 16, of course Keith was my favorite, blah blah, but he got better! The later seasons didn't interest me as much, but I still view Voltron very positively
