Mandatory conscription and volunteer military are not mutually exclusive. 5 years, think summer camp. The goal is to learn a mix of life skills, physical exercise, and chain of command. It's primary focus is peace core duty, cleaning up litter, building homes, and other community service stuff across the nation. If you are focused to join the military, you are given a bit of a fast pass to volunteer for it, and get slotted to an armed force based on your skills and open slots. This can ease the time needed for basic training. Getting rid of gun laws, building more gun ranges, having competitions and prizes, for merit in shooting and tactics, these are things that could raise the numbers of able bodies. Wonder if it would be possible to make it so, if congress has not enacted wartime stuff, service to wherever is all volunteer based, meaning government has to pay people a bit more to send them out on police actions, if they got paid what they are worth, many would volunteer to go.

And I can thoroughly suggest Made in Abyss as an amazing, compelling, beautiful, and heartbreaking series. That said, if it the author turned out to be Japanese John Wayne Gacy i would be entirely surprised.

In a previous stream you asked about updates to the LA protest Uhaul story, and the information is a bit all over the place in articles. LAPD Captain Richard Gabaldon said that he didn't believe the incident was politically motivated, and that it resulted from a conflict within the crowd. There was an interview with the driver of the vehicle where he maintained that he had no intention of driving through the crowd, and was only there peacefully. The discrepancy I see at the moment is the driver is claiming the police waved him, but this contradicts other news I've seen where it was stated the police had directed the truck to turn around. Furthermore, some of what the driver said in his interview sounded like it could be part of his legal defense since he currently has charges against him. The driver has already been released, and I haven't seen anything about the investigation being concluded. Some things don't add up, and I am still skeptical, so it'll be interesting to see how things turn out.

My dad used to have a neighbor who would apparently shoot his guns off during new years and I think the 4th of july, so it wouldn't necessarily surprise me if it was some tradition somewhere to do the same. Not sure if it makes any difference, but this would be in Florida back when he lived in the woods.
